Part-timers' qualification to join HOOPP
A part time employee can join right away if the employer waives the qualification requirement. Otherwise, the employee can join in the year following a year in which the employee has worked at least 700 hours or earns at least 35% of YMPE.
To meet these requirements, a part time employee can add together hours or earnings from more than one HOOPP employer.
For example:
At Hospital A, Mary has only worked 425 hours.
At Hospital B, Mary has only worked 275 hours.
Hours at Hospital A + hours at Hospital B = 700 hours. Mary now qualifies.
What does the employer need to do?
- Help to keep your part time employees informed by letting them know about HOOPP's Part Time Campaign. If they don't meet the hours or earnings requirements at your organization, they might be able to combine hours or earnings from another HOOPP employer that they work at in order to qualify.
- Both employers need to process the employee's enrolment through ESE.
- HOOPP takes care of the rest during the annual MDC process.
