You can easily update your personal information online using HOOPP Connect, or, if you wish to mail in a change, you may complete the Pensioner Information Change Form (PDF). You can make the following changes on HOOPP Connect or by the form:

    • address
    • name
    • home telephone
    • home e-mail address
    • banking information

To make changes to your social insurance number, date of birth or legal name, please contact HOOPP directly.

DATES TO REMEMBER WHEN MAKING A CHANGE

Please note that HOOPP requires at least 30 days’ notice if you are making a change in writing.

For example, for changes effective July 1, please submit your signed form by May 31.
*For more information, please visit HOOPP Connect or contact Client Services.

Please let us know if you’re making these changes:

    Retiring Abroad

If you retire outside of Canada, HOOPP will pay your pension in Canadian dollars by cheque, mailed to your overseas address.

Alternatively, you can leave a Canadian bank account open and HOOPP will deposit your pension to that account. In most cases, you will be able to access those funds by a bank machine in your new country of residence or online through your financial institution’s website. Please check with your financial institution for the option that’s best for you.

    Going Back To Work

Retirement opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It doesn't necessarily mean you won't work again. Returning to work will not necessarily reduce your HOOPP benefits.

If you return to work with a non-HOOPP employer, your HOOPP pension is unaffected.

    Returning to a HOOPP employer

If you find work with an employer that offers HOOPP, you have two choices:

    • you can continue to receive your HOOPP pension, or
    • you can re-enrol in HOOPP

    What does re-enrolling mean?

Re-enrolling means you will stop receiving your HOOPP pension temporarily and resume making contributions to HOOPP.

When you begin to collect your pension again, it will be adjusted to reflect the additional benefits you have built.

    Determining factors

To help you determine whether re-enrolling would make sense for you, consider:

    • Can you afford to forego your HOOPP pension income while you work?
    • Will you accumulate sufficient benefits to make foregoing the HOOPP pension income worthwhile?
    • Will resuming contributions allow you to reach a significant age milestone, such as age 60, or an eligibility service milestone, such as 15 or 30 years?

HOOPP offers pension estimates. Before you decide to accept a new position, contact us to discuss your options.
