How we spent National Nursing Week
HOOPP went on the road to connect with members during National Nursing Week, May 7 to 13.
We visited 10 HOOPP employers and met with 1,700 members to hear about the challenges and rewards of their jobs, provide updates and information about their pensions, and answer questions about defined benefit pensions.
Did you know?
- The International Council of Nurses chose May 12 to celebrate Nurses Day because it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered by many to be the founder of modern nursing.
- Nightingale was a nurse, activist, social theorist and author. She advocated for health and sanitation improvements for British Army soldiers, and enhanced hospital planning and organization.
- In 1985, Canada’s minister of health proclaimed the second week of May as National Nursing Week.
