The HOOPP Board of Trustees governs the Plan and Fund with the important focus of meeting our mission to deliver on the pension promise. The Board is made up of 16 voting members, who have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of Plan members.
Eight trustees are appointed by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and four unions each appoint two trustees. The unions are:
In addition, there can be up to eight observers appointed to the Board. Up to four observers may be appointed by the OHA and one each may be appointed by each Settlor Unions.
The role of HOOPP's board
The Board’s sole function and focus is the administration of the HOOPP Plan and the investment and management of the assets of the Fund. Its duties include:
- Approving changes to the Plan and benefits
- Setting contribution levels
- Establishing investment policy
- Monitoring investment performance
- Approving annual operating budgets
HOOPP's President & CEO reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Board committees
The Board of Trustees is assisted in fulfilling its duties by five committees making recommendations to the Board within the scope of their mandates.
The Committees report to the Board and have only the authority which the Board has specifically delegated to them in this Mandate. To fulfill its purpose, each Committee has the specific responsibilities and authority set out below in this Mandate.
Each member of the Committees, in fulfilling her or his responsibilities and duties, continues to have the fiduciary duties at law of a Trustee of the Fund and with respect to the administration of the Plan under the Pension Benefits Act.
