Mr. Anderson has been a HOOPP trustee since 1993 and has been an active member of the Plan, Investment and Governance Committees. His tenure with HOOPP has coincided with a period of tremendous progress in the areas of governance, Board effectiveness and enterprise risk management, helping to strengthen the foundation of the organization for the benefit of generations of healthcare workers. In his career, he worked at the Ontario Nurses’ Association from 1971 until his retirement in 2017, holding numerous positions, including Chief Negotiator, and leading work that spanned collective bargaining, research and arbitration. Mr. Anderson has served on various Boards and spoken at conferences on pensions and labour relations.
Mr. Rocchi was CEO of Barclays Global Investors Canada (now Blackrock Canada) from 1997 to 2005, where he led the institutional asset management business and founded the iShares Canada business. He founded the Greening Canada Fund, a carbon offset credit fund for Canadian corporations. He was Chair of the Investment Industry Regulatory Association of Canada. He has served as a Board member, investment committee member and consultant in various roles in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.
About the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan
HOOPP serves Ontario’s hospital and community-based healthcare sector, with more than 610 participating employers. Its membership includes nurses, medical technicians, food services staff, housekeeping staff, and many others who provide valued healthcare services. In total, HOOPP has more than 400,000 active, deferred and retired members.
HOOPP operates as a private independent trust, and is governed by a Board of Trustees with a sole fiduciary duty to deliver the pension promise. The Board is jointly governed by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and four unions: the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Ontario Public Service Employees' Union (OPSEU), and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). This governance model provides representation from both management and workers in support of the long-term interests of the Plan.
HOOPP is fully funded and manages a highly diversified portfolio of more than $104 billion in assets. The 10-year annualized rate of return is 11.16%. HOOPP’s investing success is delivered by an in-house team of investment professionals.
