There is no question that 2020 was an unprecedented year for all of us, especially those in the healthcare community that HOOPP proudly serves. Given that fact, and the ongoing economic environment, I recognize that some of our members may be wondering about the status of their HOOPP pension.

I want to reassure all our members that HOOPP remains fully funded and their pension remains secure. HOOPP has a talented and experienced investment team that is skilled at navigating turbulent markets.

As mentioned in an article in September, HOOPP entered 2020 in a very strong position after a successful 2019. In late 2019, HOOPP made some investment moves that helped cushion the blow of the pandemic. While we couldn’t have predicted the dramatic level of market instability in 2020, those adjustments combined with our long-term investment view, diversified portfolios and strong liquidity position, played an important part in helping us weather the economic storm and further strengthen the Plan.  

That strength is also reflected in our growing membership. Last month, we celebrated a significant milestone – we now serve over 400,000 members of Ontario’s healthcare community.

Our 2020 results will be released at the end of March and I am confident that they will provide our members with pension peace of mind, by reinforcing the strength and stability of HOOPP.
